Huskies Hand Anchorwomen First League Loss

Gorham, Maine--Junior guard Abby Wager (Mansfield, Mass.) posted 10 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals as Rhode Island College fell vs. Southern Maine, 57-48, at Hill Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The hosts wasted no time building a lead as they opened the first stanza on an 8-0 run before closing out the quarter ahead by 15, 25-10.
 
• Eight of Wager's 10 points came in the second frame as she helped minimize the deficit as the visitors went into the second half now down by five, 32-27.
 
• The game held steady in the third stanza as junior forward Emma Tenters (Jaffrey, N.H.) knocked down a pair of buckets, but it was still the Huskies ahead, 44-39, with 10 minutes left to play.
 
• Despite the Anchorwomen bringing their deficit back to three points, 44-41, the Little East leaders stood their ground at home and dealt RIC its first loss in conference play.
 
• Freshman forward Eva Monahan (Woodstock, Conn.) pitched in nine points and six rebounds.
 
• Tenters finished with a total of six points.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at Western Connecticut on Thursday, Jan. 8 (5 p.m.).
