Anchorwomen Fall in Little East Championship Final

Gorham, Maine--Junior guard Abby Wager (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded 15 points, seven boards and three blocks as No. 2-seeded Rhode Island College fell vs. No. 1-seeded Southern Maine, 71-54, in the 2026 Little East Championship Final, played at Hill Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.

THE BASICS
No. 1 Southern Maine 71, No. 2 Rhode Island College 54
Southern Maine (25-2)
Rhode Island College (21-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen wasted no time establishing a rhythm in the first 10 minutes as Wager's nine points gave the visitors a, 15-10, lead heading into the second quarter.

• An 11-2 run from the Huskies to start the second stanza put the hosts in the lead, 21-17, with six minutes remaining in the half.

• However, a bucket late in the half by freshman forward Eva Monahan (Woodstock, Conn.) knotted the game at 31 apiece as the first 20 minutes came to a close.

• USM came out of the break firing on all cylinders as they converted on five of eight attempts from downtown in the third frame and parlayed that into a 12-point, 57-45, lead with 10 minutes to play for the title.

• The Anchorwomen struggled from the field down the stretch and could not close the gap,  which led the hosts claiming their first conference title since 2013.

• Junior guard Meagan Schuermann (Cooperstown, N.Y.) contributed 15 points, while Monahan tallied nine points and grabbed five boards.
