Bailey and Earley Lead RIC as Anchorwomen Close Out Florida Trip in Win Over Curry

Clermont, Fla.—Junior catcher Brianna Bailey (Windsor, Conn.) broke a 5-5 deadlock in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run triple as Rhode Island College capped its trip to Florida with a 9-5 win over Curry at Legends Way on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC put four across in the home half of the first, keyed by a two-run double by Bailey.
 
• The Colonels evened the game at 5-5 with a three-run fourth and the game remained deadlocked until the sixth.
 
• Bailey tripled in a pair, junior left fielder Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) knocked in one with an infield single and junior shortstop Joey Meyer (South Milwaukee, Wis.) capped the frame with an RBI single.
 
• Junior pitcher Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) came on in relief to earn her second (2-1) win, allowing no runs on two hits to go along with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
 
• Earley went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, a homer and three RBI.
 
• Bailey went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double, one triple and four RBI.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Simmons for a twinbill on Wednesday, March 18 (4 p.m.).
