Bristol, R.I.--Junior left fielder Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored as the Rhode Island College fell at Roger Williams, 2-1, in the opening game of a doubleheader played at Paolino Field on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior pitcher Gabby Cunha (Cranston, R.I.) and her team's defense was stellar through five innings until the Hawks plated a pair in the sixth frame to take the lead, 2-0.
 
• The Anchorwomen tried to comeback in the seventh as Earley tripled and was brought in by sophomore first baseman Jillian Guilfoyle (Derby, Conn.) to climb within a run, but the Hawks held on for the win.
 
• Earley accounted for two of the Anchorwomen's hits on the day.
 
• Cunha suffered her second loss of the season (1-2).
