Providence, R.I.--Sophomore third baseman Gabrielle Sweeney (Shirley, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a run scored as Rhode Island College took down Wheaton, 6-3, in the first game of a doubleheader played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Lyons got a quick three-run jump on the hosts in the opening frame thanks to a deep double to left field. 
 
• From then on, senior pitcher Gabby Cunha (Cranston, R.I.) settled down and threw six scoreless innings.
 
• RIC got on the board in the next stanza as Sweeney brought in a run with a double and later scored off an error as the Anchorwomen leveled the game at three apiece.
 
• Freshman designated player Lily Bell (Coventry, R.I.) doubled in the third to give RIC a, 4-3, lead.
 
• Sweeney would bring in another run on a fielder's choice in the fifth, then senior center fielder Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) knocked in one in the sixth to ensure the win.
 
• Senior second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples and a run scored.

• Cunha struck out three and evened her record in the win (2-2).
