Anchorwomen Open Season With, 13-4, Setback at Curry

Milton, Mass.--Junior attacker Livia Sweeney (North Kingstown, R.I.) scored twice as Rhode Island College opened the 2026 women's lacrosse season with a 13-4 setback at Curry on Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Sweeney put RIC on the board 4:16 into the game, but the lead was short-lived as the Colonels evened the contest less than a minute later.
 
• After Curry went up, 2-1, Sweeney tied the game with 3:56 left to play in the opening quarter. The Colonels found the back of the net with five seconds left to hold a 3-2 advantage heading into the second quarter.
 
• Junior Lily Nees (Rehoboth, Mass.) made it a 3-3 deadlock early in the second stanza, but the Anchorwomen surrendered the lead just 41 seconds later and went into halftime down by a goal, 4-3.
 
• The hosts outscored RIC, 9-1, in the second half, with Nees registering the only Anchorwoman tally.
 
• Sophomore goalkeeper Abaigeal Estano (Goffstown, N.H.) stopped eight in a losing effort (0-1).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Salve Regina on Wednesday, March 11 (6 p.m.).
