HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Corsairs were quick to put attacks together against the RIC defense, however, freshman goalkeeper
Oceanna Orlandi (East Greenwich, R.I.) came up with a pair of clutch saves to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.
Â
• Despite Orlandi's efforts, the hosts' offense was slow to get going as they posted just three shots on goal in the first half as both squads went into halftime tied at zero.
Â
• The momentum instantly switched in the second half as junior defender
Leah Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) found Almeida in the box off a corner kick for her sixth goal of the season in the 62
nd minute.
Â
• Senior back
Karen Johnson-Hoffman (Groton, Conn.) was tremendous defensively, shutting down any attack that came her way as RIC stopped a three-game losing skid and secured its sixth shutout win of the season.
Â
• Orlandi made eight saves and came away with her fourth clean sheet of the season in the win (7-5).
