RIC Hammers Anna Maria, 13-2, for First Win

Paxton, Mass.--Junior midfielder Lily Nees (Rehoboth, Mass.) tied her career-high with five goals to go along with an assist, eight ground balls and five caused turnovers as Rhode Island College notched its first win of the season with a 13-2 victory vs. Anna Maria, 13-2, at Caparso Field on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• A pair of goals by sophomore midfielder Brie Macaruso (Ashaway, R.I.) to open the first period helped put RIC in the lead, 5-0, after 15 minutes.
 
• Junior attacker Taylor Lambert (Richmond, R.I.) immediately gave the Anchorwomen another goal less than 40 seconds into the second period.
 
• Although Anna Maria finally solved the Anchorwomen's defense, RIC went into halftime ahead by seven, 8-1.
 
• Three goals by Nees in the second half ultimately made the difference as the visitors buried the hosts with a 37-15 shot advantage.
 
• Lambert notched her first hat trick of the season, while Macaruso also scored three times and led the team with five draw controls.

• Junior goalkeeper Giana Franco (Salem, Conn.) made nine saves for the win (1-4).
 
• The win snapped a 10-game losing streak for the Anchorwomen.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East play at home vs. UMass Boston on Saturday, March 28 (11 a.m.).
