HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Wildcats took an early, 7-2, lead in the first frame until the hosts fought their way back and would eventually win, 25-15, after 10 straight points with sophomore defensive specialist
Caroline Morrell (Gorham, Maine) serving.
Â
• The Anchorwomen picked up right where they left off and dominated the visitors in the second stanza, 25-14, as 10 errors by the visitors helped the hosts pull ahead, 2-0.
Â
• JWU came right back in the third set and made quick work of RIC, as the Wildcats won, 25-17.
Â
• The visitors took the Anchorwomen the full length of the fourth frame, as RIC got to set point twice, 26-25 and 27-26, but could not close out JWU as the game would come down to a decisive fifth stanza.
Â
• Once again, the final set was neck and neck as Marines and classmate
Andrayah Williams (North Providence, R.I.) combined for four kills in the last stanza, but was not enough as relentless finishing from the Wildcats proved to be the decider, 16-14.
Â
• Senior setters
Yuleisy Alvelo (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and
Grace Luchka (North Scituate, R.I.) combined for 39 assists, with 21 and 18, respectively.
Â
• Morrell rattled off a season-high five service aces and 10 digs, while senior libero
Carolyn Bailey (Ipswich, Mass.) contributed on defense with 12 digs.
