HOW IT HAPPENED
• Despite going down early in the first set, 13-7, RIC fought back to take a 19-14 lead as a pair of kills by senior outside hitter Sarina Marines (Cranston, R.I.) and one from freshman middle hitter Aliyah Evora (East Providence, R.I.) helped the hosts win, 25-19, and take a 1-0 lead.

• The Panthers hung on in a narrow battle for the second stanza, 25-23, and went on to take care of business in the third frame, 25-19, as 17 combined errors cost the Anchorwomen.

• However, the hosts showed some mettle and took the fourth set, 25-22, as back-to-back service aces to start the stanza by junior defensive specialist Daniella Escudero (East Providence, R.I.) gave the Anchorwomen all the momentum they needed.

• The Panthers came out in the fifth and absolutely dominated, going on a 5-0 outburst to kick off the set, and closed out the game on a 10-3 run to win, 15-6, and notch their first LEC win of the season.

• Williams led the match with her 19 winners. Evora notched a career-high seven kills ,while Escudero registered a match-high five service aces.
