Box Score Providence, R.I.—Senior forward Fataya Larry (Brooklyn, NY) registered nine points, 20 rebounds, two assists and a block as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team opened Little East play with a 62-57 win over UMass Dartmouth at The Murray Center on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Sophomore guard Maire Gallagher (Worcester, MA) led RIC with 14 points to go along with a pair of assists. Junior guard Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, MA) finished with 10 points, six boards, two assists and a block.
• Senior guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) posted eight points, five boards, four assists and three steals.
• UMD senior guard Ashley Brown (New Bedford, MA) led all scorers with 21 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and a game-high six steals. Junior forward Lauren Empey (Middleboro, MA) compiled 14 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Jordan Moretti (Johnston, RI) pitched with 11 points and four boards.
• The first quarter saw the visitors take the lead, 16-14, in the final seconds on a Brown layup and ensuing foul shot.
• A Moretti three-pointer knotted the contest, 24-24, with 4:48 left in the second quarter before the hosts embarked on a 7-0 run to build a 33-36 advantage on a Gallagher trey at 3:14. • A free throw by Empey pulled UMD within two, 35-33, at :50, but two Gallagher free throws sent the Anchorwomen into halftime up by four, 37-33.
• The Corsairs pulled within a pair on two occasions in the third quarter, but RIC built a six-point lead, 49-43, with one frame left to play.
• A free throw by Empey cut the RIC lead down to a mere point, 58-57, with :46 left in the game, but four free throws by Gauvin sealed the win for RIC.
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 34 percent (22-for-64) from the field, 26 percent (6-for-23) from three-point range and 67 percent (12-for-18) from the free throw line.
• UMD shot 36 percent (18-for-50) from the field, 25 percent (3-for-12) from long range and 67 percent (18-for-27) from the free throw line.
• RIC dominated the glass, 51-21, while UMD won the turnover battle, 24-18.
