Hall of Fame
Destinee Barrette was an outstanding thrower on Rhode Island College's women's indoor and outdoor track and field teams during her career from 2014-18.
Among a host of accomplishments, the Warwick, R.I. native was a RIC 100th Anniversary Team selection, a four-time NCAA Championship Qualifier, a multiple-time All-New England, All-ECAC and New England All-Alliance honoree, a two-time Little East champ in the hammer and was a Little East Rookie Field Athlete of the Year award recipient.
OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
As a senior in 2018, Barrette registered a 13th place finish (52.03m) in the hammer at the NCAA Div. III National Championship on May 26. She finished sixth in the hammer (52.79m) at the N.E. Open Championship on May 11-12. Barrette earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish in the hammer (50.24m) and also placed 26th in the shot (10.03m) at the N.E. Championship on May 5. She earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events at the Alliance Championship on April 28. She registered a second place finish in the hammer (51.71m) and finished fifth in the shot (11.49m). She also finished 12th in the discus (28.95m). Barrette finished second in the hammer (50.55m) at the Sean Collier Invitational on April 21. She finished second in the hammer (51.84m) and sixth in the shot (11.72m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 14. Barrette finished first in the discus (49.08m), second in the hammer and sixth in the shot (10.60m) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 7. She finished third in the hammer (49.51m), sixth in the shot (10.94m) and 15th in the discus throw (30.22m) at the Black and Gold Invitational on March 31.

As a junior in 2017, Barrette finished 12th in the hammer (52.39m) at the NCAA Div. III National Championships on May 27. Barrette placed fourth in the hammer (50.13m) at the MIT Final Qualifier on May 18. She placed 11th in the hammer (50.81m) at the N.E. Open Championships. Barrette earned All-New England honors with a sixth place finish in the hammer (47.54m) at the N.E. Championships on May 5-6. She earned N.E. Alliance honors (and was the Little East champion) in two events at the Alliance Championships on April 29. She finished first in the hammer (52.53) with a new program record and was second in the discus (33.10m). She also placed 11th in the shot (10.23m). Her effort in the hammer was also a new Little East record for the outdoor championships. Barrette placed second in the hammer (50.63m) and 15th in the discus (31.34m) at the Sean Collier Invitational on April 22. She placed first in the hammer (49.83m), 13th in the discus (29.80m) and 15th in the shot (10.28m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 15. Barrette placed fourth in the hammer (49.12m), 18th in the discus (28.20m) and 19th in the shot (10.03m) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 8.

As a sophomore in 2015, Barrette wrapped up her season by finishing 12th in the hammer (51.15m) at the NCAA National Championships on May 21-23. She earned All-ECAC accolades by placing second in the hammer (51.14m) at the ECAC Championships on May 14-15. Barrette placed seventh in the hammer (49.69m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 8-9. She earned All-New England accolades by finishing second in the hammer (51.48m; season-best) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Apr. 30-May 2. Barrette earned N.E. Alliance honors with a first place finish in the hammer (48.30m), while also placing 12th in the shot (10.33m) at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 2. She placed second in the hammer (49.59m) and fourth in the shot (10.89m; season-best) at the Eric Loeschner Invitational on Apr. 18. Barrette placed fifth in the hammer (46.37m) and 16th in the shot (9.60m) at the Brown Invitational on Apr. 11. She finished first in the hammer (42.08m) and third in the shot (10.57m) at the Corsair Invitational on Apr. 4. She finished second in the hammer (43.17m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Mar. 28.

As a freshman in 2014, she was named the Little East Conference Women’s Outdoor Rookie Field Athlete of the Year. She placed 22nd in the hammer (45.86m) at the 2014 NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 22-24. Barrette earned All-ECAC honors with a fourth place finish in the hammer (49.74m) at the ECAC Championships on May 15-16. She finished third in the hammer and established a new program record (51.49m) along the way at the N.E. Open Championships on May 9-10. Barrette was the Alliance Champion in the hammer (50.15m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. She also took 11th in the discus (31.03m; season-best) and 12th in the shot (10.36m). Barrette placed first in the hammer (46.43m) and second in both the shot (10.41m; season-best) and the discus (30.37m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. She took third place in the hammer (48.07m) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. Barrette placed first in the hammer (48.43m), 30th in the shot (8.49m) and 36th in the discus (22.25m) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. She took first in the hammer (47.36m), seventh in the discus (29.93m) and 19th in the shot (9.10m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29. Barrette was named the Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Week three times on the season.
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
As a senior in 2017-18, Barrette finished third in both the weight throw (14.12m) and the shot (10.27m) at the Maine State Open on Feb. 24. She earned All-New England honors with a sixth place finish in the weight throw (15.11m) at the N.E. Championship on Feb. 17. Barrette earned a pair of N.E. Alliance honors, placing second in the weight throw (15.01m) and fifth in the shot (10.47m) at the Alliance Championship on Feb. 10. Barrette finished 15th in the weight throw (14.72m) and 39th in the shot (10.09m) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 26. She finished second in the weight throw (15.04m) and sixth in the shot (9.88m) at the Maroon and White Classic on Jan. 20. Barrette finished second in the weight throw (15.33m) and 17th in the shot (9.30m) at the RIC Holiday Classic on Dec. 9. Barrette placed third in the weight throw (13.69m) at the UMass Boston Winter Open on Dec. 2.

As a junior in 2016-17, Barrette placed fourth in the weight throw (15.44m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 4. She finished 16th in the weight throw (14.95m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 25. Barrette earned All-New England honors with a fifth place finish in the weight throw (15.65m; season-best) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. She earned N.E. Alliance honors with a second place finish in the weight throw (14.41m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Barrette finished third in the weight throw (15.40m) and 21st in the shot (9.76m) at the URI Invitational on Feb. 4. She finished second in the weight throw (15.21m) and eighth in the shot (9.80m; season-best) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. Barrette finished first in the weight throw (14.45m) and placed 20th in the shot (9.73m) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3.

As a sophomore in 2014-15, she finished second in the weight throw (14.83m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 6. She finished 12th in the weight throw (15.09m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27-28. Barrette earned All-New England honors with a fifth place finish in the weight throw (14.81m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 20-21. She garnered N.E. Alliance honors with a first place finish in the weight throw (15.41; season-best), while also placing 10th in the shot (10.66m; season-best), at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Barrette placed ninth in the weight throw (14.97m) and 26th in the shot (9.48m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. She placed first in the weight throw (15.41m; season-best) and fifth in the shot (9.68m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

As a freshman in 2013-14, she finished 17th in the weight throw (14.25m) and 35th in the shot (10.06m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 24. She placed second in the weight throw (14.24m) and seventh in the shot (10.26m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 18. Barrette finished first in the weight throw (12.97m) and sixth in the shot (9.59m) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 11. She finished seventh in the weight throw (14.02m) and 13th in the shot (10.16m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 14. Barrette took first place in the weight throw (13.82m) and finished fifth in the shot (9.37m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 7. She was the Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Week three times.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Rhode Island College in 2018. Barrette is currently the Rhode Island College Men's and Women's Track and Field Throwers' Coach and a behavioral specialist with the Stevens Treatment Program.
