Melanie Brunelle was an All-American jumper during her women's indoor and outdoor track and field career at Rhode Island College from 2015-18.
She was a 100th Anniversary Team selection, earned All-American honors in the triple jump, a two-time NCAA Championship qualifier, multiple-time All-New England and New England All-Alliance honoree and named both the Little East Field Athlete and Rookie Field Athlete of the Year.
OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
As a junior in 2018, Brunelle finished 12th in the high jump (1.54m), 13th in the triple jump (10.84m) and 18th in the long jump (4.94m) at the N.E. Championship on May 5. Brunelle earned two N.E. Alliance honors at the Alliance Championship on April 28. She took home third in both the high jump (1.59m) and the triple jump (10.87m). Brunelle was also seventh in the 100m hurdles (16.90). She finished second in the 100m hurdles (16.26) and third in the triple jump (11.21m) at the Sean Collier Invitational on April 21. She finished second in the high jump (1.49m) and fourth in the long jump (5.18m) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 7. Brunelle finished third in the triple jump (10.56m), fourth in the 4x100m relay (49.55), tenth in the high jump (1.54m) and 28th in the 100m hurdles (18.65) at the Silfen Invitational on April 14.
As a sophomore in 2017, Brunelle was named the Little East Field Athlete of the Year. She earned All-American honors in the triple jump with an eighth place (11.93m) leap at the NCAA Div. III National Championships on May 27. Brunelle placed first in the triple jump (11.49m) and third in the long jump (5.50m) at the MIT Final Qualifier on May 18. She placed 11th in the triple jump (11.27m) and 14th in the long jump (5.26m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 13. Brunelle took home All-New England honors with a fifth place finish in the triple jump (11.57m) and recorded a seventh place finish in the long jump (5.34m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 5-6. She also ran the anchor leg of the seventh place 4x100m relay (48.66). In addition, Brunelle tied for 10th place in the high jump (1.55m). Brunelle earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, finishing first in both the high jump (1.57m) and triple jump (11.76m), to go along with a fourth place finish in the long jump (5.30m), at the Alliance Championships on April 29. She also finished eighth in both the 100m hurdles (16.53) and the 400m hurdles (1:10.02). Her effort in the triple jump was a new Little East record for the outdoor championships. Brunelle placed first in the triple jump (11.47m), second in the long jump (5.26m) and fifth in the 400m hurdles (1:09.86) at the Sean Collier Invitational on April 22. She placed first in the triple jump (11.22m), second in the high jump (1.58m), third in the long jump (5.54m) and third in the 100m hurdles (15.70) at the Silfen Invitational on April 15. Brunelle placed first in the triple jump (10.97m), third in the long jump (4.94m) and seventh in the 100m hurdles (16.87) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 8.
As a freshman in 2016, Brunelle was named the Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the year. Brunelle finished third in the high jump (1.55m) and third in triple jump (11.09m), while also competing as a member of the second place 4x100m relay (48.47), at the Salisbury Elite Qualifying Meet on May 19. She finished eighth in the triple jump (11.41m) and 12th in the high jump (1.60m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 13-14. Brunelle earned a pair of All-N.E. honors, placing third in the triple jump (11.42m; season-best), while also finishing 10th in the 400m hurdles (1:05.73), 13th in the long jump (5.13m) and fifth in the 4x100m relay (48.62) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Apr. 5-7. She earned N.E. Alliance honors in four events, finishing second in the triple jump (11.21m), third in the 400m hurdles (1:05.80), third in the high jump (1.53m) and fourth in the long jump (5.32m; season-best), while also placing ninth in the 100m hurdles (16.14; season-best) and fifth in the 4x100m relay (49.11), at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Apr. 3. Brunelle competed in the 400m hurdles, triple jump and as a member of the 4x400m relay at the Sean Collier Invitational on Apr. 23. She finished second in both the high jump (1.68m; season-best) and the 100m hurdles (15.73), third in the long jump (5.42m), while also competing as a member of the first place 4x100m relay (50.17), at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 16. Brunelle finished first in the 400m hurdles (1:03.63; season-best), fourth in the triple jump (11.26m) and seventh in the high jump (1.60m) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Apr. 9. She finished first in the high jump (1.58m) and fourth in the 800m (2:24.33; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 2.
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
As a sophomore in 2016-17, Brunelle was named the Little East Field Athlete of the Year. She finished first in the triple jump (11.46m) and seventh in the high jump (1.55m) at the Tufts last Chance Meet on March 4. She finished 10th in the triple jump (11.10m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 25. Brunelle earned All-New England honors with a fifth place finish in the triple jump (11.42m) and as part of the fourth place 4x200m relay (1:46.92) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. She also finished 10th in the high jump (1.56m; season-best) and 14th in the long jump (5.08m; season-best) at the same meet. Brunelle earned N.E. Alliance honors in four events at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. She finished first in both the 600m (1:38.14; season-best) and triple jump (11.26m), while also placing third in the long jump (5.22m), fifth in the high jump (1.52m). Brunelle also finished ninth in the preliminaries of the 55m hurdles (9.04). Brunelle finished first in the triple jump (11.09m), sixth in the 500m (1:19.93) and 19th in the high jump (1.55m) at the URI Invitational on Feb. 4. She placed 10th in the triple jump (11.09m) and 13th in the high jump (160m) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. Brunelle finished first in the triple jump (11.24m) and third in the 60m hurdles (9.78) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. She finished first in the high jump (1.52m), long jump (5.24m) and triple jump (10.91m), while also placing second in the 600m (1:47.59), at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. Brunelle placed seventh in the high jump (1.60m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. She placed first in the long jump (5.27m) and second in the 400m (59.60) at the UMass Boston Indoor Invitational on Dec. 3. She was named the Little East Field Athlete of the Week twice on the season.
As a freshman in 2015-16, Brunelle was named the Little East Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Year and the Women’s Rookie Field Athlete of the Year. She finished 10th in the triple jump (11.64m) at the NCAA Div. III Women’s Indoor Track and Field National Championships on Mar. 11-12. Brunelle finished second in the high jump (1.64m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. She finished second in the triple jump (11.86m; season-best) and 14th in the high jump (1.61m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27. Brunelle earned four All-New England honors, finishing first in the high jump (1.68m; season-best), triple jump (11.68m; field house record) and the 4x200m relay (1:44.19; field house record), to go along with a fourth place finish in the 600m (1:37.75), at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. She earned a trio of N.E. Alliance titles, finishing first in the 600m (1:37.12; season-best), the long jump (5.32m; season-best) and the triple jump (11.43m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. Brunelle also earned N.E. Alliance honors with a second place finish in the 4x200m relay (1:45.91), a third place finish in the high jump (1.58m) and was seventh in the 60m hurdles (9.76). She finished second in the high jump (1.65m), fifth in the triple jump (11.56m) and fifth in the 500m (1:14.53; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Brunelle finished 12th in the triple jump (11.49m), 23rd in the high jump (1.55m) and 67th in the 60m hurdles (9.87), while also competing as a member of the 43rd place 4x400m relay (4:09.43), at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. She finished first in the 60m hurdles (9.85), high jump (1.62m) and the triple jump (11.03m), while also competing as a member of the first place distance medley relay (14:35.38), at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Brunelle finished first in the high jump (1.57m), long jump (5.06m), 600m (1:40.16), triple jump (10.75m), 4x200m relay (1:50.05) and the 4x400m relay (4:21.85) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 16. She finished second in the triple jump (11.20m) and 15th in the high jump (1.55m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. Brunelle finished first in both the high jump (1.62m) and the triple jump (10.79m), was second in the long jump (5.09m) and also competed as a member of the first place 4x200m relay (1:47.65) and the second place 4x400m relay (4:12.62), at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5. She was named the Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Week nine times on the season.
