Craig Amado ’17 was a four-time qualifier to the NCAA Div. III Track and Field National Championship during his career at Rhode Island College from 2010-15 and helped lead the Anchormen to the 2013 Little East Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Amado earned a bachelor's degree in community health and wellness from Rhode Island College in 2017.
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
As a senior in 2013-14, the Providence, R.I. native finished 16th in the triple jump (13.63m) at the N.E. Open Championships on March 1. He earned All-New England honors in the triple jump with a fifth place finish (13.40m), while also placing 13th in the long jump (6.29m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 21-22. Amado earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, as he finished third in the long jump (6.64m; season-best), fifth in the triple jump (13.29m) and sixth in the 600m (1:24.23; season-best) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 15. He took 14th in the triple jump (13.34m) and finished 60th in the 400m (50.12; season-best) at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 8. Amado finished second in both in the triple jump (13.70m) and the 600m (1:24.47), while finishing eighth in the long jump (6.15m), at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 1.
He finished 10th in the triple jump (13.94m) and 71st in the 400m (50.60) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 25. Amado placed second in both the long jump (6.28m) and the triple jump (13.24m), while finishing sixth in the 200m (24.18) and 12th in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.03), at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 18. He finished second in the triple jump (13.49m; season-best), long jump (6.33m) and fourth in the 600m (1:25.57) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 11. Amado placed fourth in the triple jump (13.83m) and 12th in the 400m (52.40) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 14. He placed first in the triple jump (13.22m) and also finished third in the 600m (1:27.52) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 7.
As a junior in 2012-13, Amado took first place in the triple jump (13.94m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 2. He earned All-New England honors in the triple jump with a third place finish (13.82m), while also placing 12th in the long jump (6.25m), at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 16. Amado was the N.E. Alliance Champion in the triple jump, placing first overall with a season-high mark of 14.42m, and also earned N.E. Alliance honors in the long jump with a season-high mark of 6.65m with a fourth place effort at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. Amado finished first in the triple jump (13.95m), 11th in the 400m (52.18), 15th in the long jump (6.03m) and 27th in the 200m (24.46) at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 2. He placed 10th in the triple jump (13.76m) and finished 53rd in the 400m with a season-best time of 50.15 at the B.U. Terrier Invitational on Jan. 26.
Amado placed first in the triple jump (13.82m), second in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:25.97, and fourth in the long jump (6.09m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 12. Amado placed second in the long jump (6.35) and third in the 200m with a season-best time of 23.05 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 5. He took third place in the 400m (50.22) and fourth in the triple jump (14.04m) at the Harvard Open on Dec. 8. He was also a member of the 4x440m relay team broke the previous program record with a second place time of 3:25.30. Amado placed first in both the triple jump (14.25m) and the 400m (51.43) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 1.
As a sophomore in 2011-12, Amado placed 13th in the triple jump (13.64m) at the 2012 NCAA Div. III Championships on March 10. He placed 10th in the triple jump (13.93m) and 17th in the 400m (51.14) at the ECAC Championships on March 3. Amado broke his own program record in the triple jump after placing fourth (14.86m) and also finished 14th in the 400m with a season-best time of 49.47 at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. He placed ninth in the triple jump (13.49m) and 20th in the 400m (53.01) at the N.E. Div. III Men’s Track and Field Championships on Feb. 18. Amado earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, as he placed fourth in the long jump with a season-best 6.67m, fifth in the triple jump (13.44m) and third as part of the 4x400m relay (3:27.96) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11.
He also placed seventh in the 400m (51.53). He took sixth in the triple jump (14.31m), 32nd in the 400m (50.34) and 97th in the 200m with a season-best time of 23.70 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. Amado placed first in the triple jump (14.32m), as well as the 400m (52.60), finished fifth in the 200m (24.83) and helped establish a new program record in the 4x200m relay with a first-place finish (1:35.41) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed first with a season-best performance in the 600m (1:23.41), first in the long jump (6.62m) and first in the triple jump (14.01m), while also taking third place in the 200m (24.28), at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Amado was named Little East Conference Track Athlete of the Week once on the season and named Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Week once on the year as well.
As a freshman in 2010-11, Amado was named the Little East Conference Rookie Track Athlete of the Year. Amado finished 11th in the preliminaries of the 400m (50.13) at the NCAA Div. III Championships, hosted by Capital University on March 11. He earned All-ECAC honors in the 400m with a fourth place finish (49.29), while also placing ninth in the triple jump (13.89m), at the ECAC Championships on March 5. Amado broke his own record in the 400m, placing sixth (48.76), and equaled his own program mark in the triple jump with a fifth place effort (14.32m) at the NEICAAA Championship Meet on Feb. 26. He earned All-New England honors for his second place finish in the 400m (50.69), eighth place effort in the long jump (6.44m) and fourth place effort as part of the 4x400m relay (3:24.88) at the Div. III New England Championships on Feb. 19. He also placed ninth in the triple jump (13.26m) at the meet. Amado impressively won N.E. Alliance honors for his top-eight finishes in four events at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 12.
He won the 400m (50.16), placed second in the triple jump with a new program record (14.32m), took third with another program record in the long jump (6.68m) and finished sixth in the 200m (23.33). He finished sixth in the triple jump (13.86m), 13th in the 400m (49.03) and helped establish a new program record (3:18.84) in the 4x400m relay at the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29. Amado placed fifth in the triple jump (12.94) and seventh with a season-best performance in the 200m (23.28) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 22. He claimed victory in the 400m (51.86), while placing second in both the long jump (6.35m) and the triple jump (13.80m), at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 15. Amado won both the 600m (1:24.83) and the triple jump (13.68m), while finishing second in the long jump (6.14m), at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 8. He won the triple jump (14.28m) at the Harvard Open on Dec. 11. Amado won the triple jump (13.90m), placed second in the 400m (52.28), third in the long jump (6.64m) and fifth in the high jump (1.76m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 4. Amado was named Little East Conference Rookie Track Athlete of the Week three times and the LEC Rookie Field Athlete of the Week on two other occasions.
OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
As a senior in 2015, Amado finished the season with a 12th place finish in the triple jump (14.29m) at the NCAA National Championships on May 21-23. He earned All-ECAC honors with a first place finish in the triple jump (15.15m; season-best) at the ECAC Championships on May 14-15. Amado placed fourth in the triple jump (14.78m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 8-9. He earned All-New England honors with a second place finish in the triple jump (14.86m), while also placing ninth in the long jump (6.61m), at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Apr. 30-May 2. Amado earned a pair of N.E. Alliance honors with a second place finish in the triple jump (14.76m) and a fifth place finish in the long jump (6.90m; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 25.
He placed first in both the triple jump (14.54m) and the long jump (6.75m) at the Eric Loeschner Invitational on Apr. 18. Amado finished first in the triple jump (14.42m) at the Brown Invitational on Apr. 11. He finished first in the triple jump (13.79m) at the Corsair Invitational on Apr. 4. Amado placed first in the triple jump (14.03m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Mar. 28.
As a junior in 2013, Amado earned All-ECAC honors in the triple jump (14.57m; season-best) with a fifth place finish at the ECAC Championships on May 16-17. He placed fifth in the triple jump (14.14m) and fifth with a program record time as a part of the 4x400m relay (3:15.94) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 10-11. He earned All-New England honors in the triple jump with a fourth place finish (13.95m) and also earned All-New England honors as a member of the 4x400m relay that recorded a third place finish (3:19.69) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 4. Amado earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events, placing first as a member of the 4x400m relay team (3:20.76) and second in the triple jump (14.12m), while also finishing 14th in the long jump (6.18m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. Amado also placed sixth as part of the 4x100m relay with a new program-record time (43.25).
He placed first in the long jump (6.35m; season-best), while placing second in the triple jump (13.17m) and seventh in the 400m (51.36) at the Silfen Invitational on April 20. Amado finished second in the triple jump (14.25m) at the Brown Invitational on April 13. He placed first in the triple jump (13.26m) at the Corsair Invitational on April 6. Amado took first place in the triple jump (13.95m) and finished 16th in the 800m (2:02.84) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 30. Amado was named the Little East Field Athlete of the Week once on the season.
As a sophomore in 2012, he placed 11th in the triple jump (14.58m) at the NCAA National Championships on May 26. He earned All-ECAC honors in the triple jump with a third place finish (14.54m) and was 10th in the 400m (49.57) at the ECAC Championships on May 18. He placed third in the triple jump (14.99m), a new program record, and finished 10th in the 400m (49.77) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 11-12. Amado earned All-New England honors in two events, placing first in the triple jump (14.43m) and seventh in the 400m (49.69), at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 5. He earned four N.E. Alliance honors, placing first in the triple jump (13.97m), fourth in the 400m with a season-best time (48.95) and seventh in the long jump (6.37m) at the 2012 Alliance Championships on Saturday, April 28. Amado was a member of the 4x400m relay squad that earned N.E. Alliance honors with a first place finish and new program record time (3:19.21), while also placing 10th in the 200m with a season-best time (22.89).
Amado placed second in the triple jump (13.85m), second in the 400m (50.40), seventh in the 200m (23.37) and ninth in the long jump (5.76m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 28. He finished second in the triple jump (14.42m) and fourth in the 400m (49.63) at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on Saturday, April 14. Amado placed seventh in the 200m (23.70) at the Corsair Classic on April 7. He finished second in the long jump with a season-best effort (6.38m) and seventh in the 800m with a season-best time (2:01.50) at the Coast Guard Bear Invitational on March 31. He was named the Little East Field Athlete of the Week once on the season.
As a freshman in 2011, Amado was named the Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Year and team MVP. This spring, Amado earned two All-ECAC honors, placing fifth in the 400m with a season-best time (48.98) and seventh in the triple jump (13.71), as well as placing 17th (3:22.20) as part of the 4x400m relay, at the ECAC Div. III Championships on May 19-20. He helped break the program record in the 4x400m relay with an eighth place finish (3:19.84), while also placing ninth in the triple jump (13.95m) and 14th in the 400m (49.54), at the N.E. Open Championships on May 13-14.
Amado earned All-New England honors in three events, placing second in the triple jump with a season-best effort (14.25m), fifth in the 400m (49.62) and second as part of the 4x400m (3:19.89) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 7.
He earned N.E. Alliance honors in five events by placing first in the triple jump (13.82m), first as part of the 4x400m relay (3:22.19), third in the 400m (49.50), fourth in the long jump with a season-best effort (6.42m) and sixth in the 800m with a season-best time (1:58.98) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30.
Amado finished second in both the 400m (50.09) and the triple jump (13.14m), while placing fourth in the long jump (6.06m) and seventh in the 200m (23.96), at the Silfen Invitational on April 23. He won the 400m (49.42), placed third in the triple jump (13.16m) and sixth in the long jump (5.92m) at the Swanson Invitational on April 9. Amado helped establish a new program record with a third place finish in the 4x100m relay (43.68), finished third in the triple jump (13.23m), fourth in the long jump (6.23m) and eighth in the 200m with a season-best time (23.66) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 2. He won the 800m (2:01.18) and placed sixth in the long jump (5.98m) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 26.
