James McGlynn ’89 was an All-New England third baseman during his career on the diamond at RIC. One of the college’s all-time home run and RBI leaders, he played in 91 career games, compiling a .342 career batting average to go along with 63 runs scored, 101 hits, 85 RBI, 17 doubles, three triples and 21 home runs. McGlynn still ranks in the top 10 of several single season program records. He was selected to the Rhode Island College All-75th Anniversary Baseball Team in 2005.
As a senior in 1988, McGlynn played in 27 games, batting .430 with 34 runs scored, 46 hits, 39 RBI, eight doubles, two triples and nine home runs. He was named First Team All-New England and played in the New England Collegiate All-Star Game at Fenway Park.
As a junior in 1987, he played in 24 games, batting .296 with 14 runs scored, 21 hits, 17 RBI, three doubles and five home runs.
As a sophomore in 1986, he played in 29 games, batting .324 with 16 runs scored, 17 RBI, four doubles, one triple and three home runs.
As a freshman in 1985, he played in 11 games, batting .233 with nine runs scored, 10 hits, 12 RBI, two doubles and four home runs.
McGlynn earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Rhode Island College in 1989.
He is currently a detective with the Connecticut State Police and has received numerous department awards for major crime investigations.
McGlynn resides in Killingworth, Connecticut with his wife Marsha and their children: Nicholas, Emily and Ella Rose.
