A graduate of the class of 1980, JoAnn Avedisian was a four-year Anchorwoman softball student-athlete and captained the squad for all but her freshman campaign.

Earning All-State honors in all four seasons and the Rhode Island State College Championship Softball Tournament, she competed at the EAIAW Softball Championships at Glassboro State College in 1980. Avedisian also enjoyed All-World selection in 1985 from the United States Slow Pitch Softball Association for her efforts at the Eastern Regional Division B Championships in Peabody, Mass. and served as the Assistant Women’s Softball Coach for the Anchorwomen from 1984 to 1987.

Since 1980 she taught special education on the elementary, junior high and high school levels and has coached, at a variety of locations, the skills of basketball, softball, swimming and track & field. She was nominated ‘Coach of the Year” of the 1991 Rhode Island Special Olympics.
