Ed Jones ’72 was a four-year starter for the Anchormen in baseball and captained the team in 1972. During his career, he was a .331 hitter and left with 102 career hits, averaging over a hit per game during his time in a RIC uniform, an impressive accomplishment during his era in which the team would play roughly 25 games per season.

The Warwick, R.I. native has been a successful high school softball coach in California during his career.  He guided his Riverside Poly high school team to the California State Championship and sent countless athletes to NCAA Div. I, II and III programs. He also served as the high school golf coach.

An active member of the community, Jones was named the California Teacher of the Year three times and helped oversee his church’s volunteer efforts in Mexico.

Jones earned a bachelor of science degree in social science from Rhode Island College in 1972. He earned a master’s degree from Chapman University in 1989. He retired after a 26-year career as a teacher.
