Lonnie Morris was an NCAA Div. III Wrestling All-American, a two-time New England Champion and earned All-New England honors four times in the heavyweight weight class during his career on the mat from 1990-94. Morris is one of a select group of Rhode Island College wrestlers to accumulate 100 or more wins during his career. He was named to the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) Hall of Fame and to RIC’s All-75th Anniversary Wrestling Team in 2005.

The Coventry, Rhode Island native is currently the Head Wrestling Coach at Johnson & Wales University, a position he assumed in 1997, and has built the Wildcats’ squad into a regional power from the ground up. He was named the NECCWA Rookie Coach of the Year in 1998 and was the Coach of the Year in 2000 and again in 2005. The program has been ranked as high as 7th nationally, won the NECCWA Duals twice and captured the Pilgrim Wrestling League title four of the past eight years.

Morris earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Rhode Island College in 1996. He is currently a physical education teach in the Coventry Public School System.

He resides in Barrington, Rhode Island with his wife Katherine. He is the proud father of two daughters, Cortney and Taylor.
