
Jamie (Murray) Marcoux ’94 was an outstanding outside hitter on the women’s volleyball team from 1990-92.
The North Smithfield, R.I. native played in 220 sets in 83 career matches. Marcoux totaled 333 kills, 384 digs, 248 blocks and 100 service aces. As a senior in 1992, she served as a team captain and was selected to play in the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Senior All Star Classic. Marcoux played in 77 sets in 28 matches, totaling 105 kills, 211 digs, 36 assists, 38 service aces and 209 blocks.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Rhode Island College in 1994. Marcoux was recognized as Rhode Island College’s NCAA Woman of the Year and was the recipient of the Rhode Island College Health and Physical Education Department Senior Faculty Award in 1994.
After graduating from Rhode Island College, Marcoux went on to obtain her master’s degree in athletic training from Indiana State. In 1996, Marcoux began her career in athletics at Johnson and Wales University, serving as the head athletic trainer in 1998 and as the associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator from 2002-2013. In 2013, Marcoux was named the Director of Athletics and served in that role until 2018.
While at Johnson & Wales, Marcoux contributed to the development and execution of a strategic plan that has enhanced the University’s athletic program. The enhancements included the construction of new baseball, softball and multi-purpose turf fields, the upgrade of the indoor practice facility with locker rooms and concessions, full-time coaches and the addition of six varsity programs. Marcoux established Johnson & Wales as the top athletic department in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and one of the finest in New England among Div. III schools.
During the 2017-18 academic year, the athletic program finished 55th in the Learfield Cup standings, its best finish ever and the 11th highest of any New England school. Seven different programs claimed GNAC Championships over the course of that year. In July of 2018, she was honored as the GNAC Executive of the Year for her excellent work.
Marcoux served as the Director of Athletics at Assumption University during the 2018-19 academic year. At Assumption, she managed a full-time staff of 35 and 575 student athletes and led the program to a third place finish in the NE-10 President’s Cup Standings.
In addition to her administrative credentials at JWU, Marcoux also served as the head women’s volleyball coach from 1996-2010. She led the team to five GNAC Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. Marcoux was recognized for her success by being named the GNAC Coach of the Year on seven occasions. Her team appeared in the conference championship game in 11 of her 15 years at the helm as she amassed over 325 wins. She was twice named
Word’s Unlimited’s Female Sports Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2010.
Marcoux served as the chair of the GNAC executive committee, as well as the chair of the executive committee of the former NCAA women’s ice hockey Colonial Hockey Conference.
She also has served for a number of organizations, including the National Association of Athletic Administrators (Div. III), Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (RIAIAW; President ’06-07), National Association for Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators, National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Rhode Island Athletic Trainers’ Association, NCAA women’s volleyball regional committee member, Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) women’s volleyball committee member and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) head coaches’ committee member.
She currently serves as an adjunct instructor in the Athletic Leadership Graduate Programs at Springfield College, after serving for a year as the interim Athletic Administration Graduate Program Director for the institution.
